ある時までずっと動作・状態が続くことを表す. 同じ意味・用法で使われる語に till があるが, ふつうは until を使う. スペリングでは until は l が1つ, till は2つあることに注意.

until の前にコンマ（, ）がある時は, 前から訳してきて「そしてついに」とする. 特に until at last の時はそのように訳す.
